Ok, so it’s been a while…

The last time I posted a new article, I was announcing the conception of our 5th baby.

 Well, he’s here!

Jonah Michael was born December 14, 2007 at 11:10pm *we think that was the time…*

The reason we only ‘think’ that was the time, we had a huge emergency with him called a prolapsed cord. This is where the umbilical cord for the baby comes out before the baby does. This is an emergency because the baby’s head will press on the cord and cut off the oxygen for the baby.

I have an incredibly smart and Godly midwife. We were ALL praying and we got baby out very fast. Jonah had a heart rate of about 30 and declining when he was born– most babies have about a 150 heartrate. She put him on my tummy and rubbed him down and he started pinking up, breathing and screaming! Got it back up good!!!

The whole experience was scarier than anything I could ever imagine and I am so thankful God chose to hear our cries and allow Jonah to live!!

His original name was going to be Jonah Solomon, but my husband decided it didnt sound right *before all the chaos happened* When I was nursing Jonah about an hour or two afterward, my husband was outside and our midwife was getting something out of her house and I whispered out loud, while stroking his tiny little ear, “God, who is like you?” And then I laughed a little and said “Of course, Michael should be your middle name!” Because that name is a question. “Who is like God?”

Not one is! He is amazing!

So here we are almost 3 weeks later, he’s doing great. Victoria can’t say his name very well and says “Donut” in her attempts to say it. So thats what we call him too :D

Poor kid is going to be called this his whole life, I can see it.

  1. Wow that’s an awesome story! Bless you and your family. I pray all are doing especially Jonah!

  2. HI Amanda,
I saw your comment on another site. God does heal autism today- and you don’t need to go to any one special. Jesus still heals all who come to Him in faith. He bore all of our sicknesses at the cross (ps 103) By whose stripes we were healed. There’s a great testimony here at http://www.unleavenedbreadministries.org and walking by faith for healing. The Lord did heal my son of autism.
I pray the Lord will bless you in the same way. He is able and has not changed. This gift is for you too. “sozo” the word used for salvation means healed, delivered, and provided for. Blessings! April S.
Oh- and I have a son named Jonah too :)

  3. April,

Thank you for your comment :) I havent, nor will I ever, give up hope the God will heal my Aaron :)

I wasnt able to find the autism testimony in the testimonies section of the website you gave me, but I did have a nosey around the site and I can’t say I agree with a lot of the practices or suggested practices on there.

One of those suggestions is dominionism– I am not at all in favor of dominionism– I came out of radical charismania, much of which was dominionist.

I dont follow anyone but Jesus Christ now. Not one current modern-day self proclaimed prophet will turn my head.

z use medicine (allopathic and naturopathic) when necessary. Jonah would have died had it not been for an exceptionally competent midwife at my side.

I believe with all my heart that Aaron will be healed from autism and I tell the Lord, “Your will, not mine, be done” I do not command Him to do anything, for He is my master and I am his servant– and who am I to attempt to move the holy and righteous hand of God?

  4. I might want to add that our midwife doesnt take any chances. If there is a clear emergency, like ours, that phone is in her hand dialing 911 faster than you can blink. In our case, Jonah was born before the ambulance reached us. She isnt, by any means, careless and will make sure mom is well taken care of. She does say to her moms that if they want a careless midwife that will not call the ambulance in an emergency, then they best move on to someone who doesnt care about the well being of them or their babies.

I would never choose someone who wouldnt err on the side of caution with my life or that of my baby’s!

  5. So you’re alive?
    Just checking on you.
Our son Luke Christopher is due July 7th. That’s number 3 so far. We’re going for a quiver full (psalm 127).

May God’s grace be upon you, your husband and children.
    mark jr.

  6. Hey Mark jr!! I’ve been thinking/praying for you guys lately– I popped onto your site earlier this week and saw that your wife was sick :( How is she??

I have just resurfaced on the blog circuit this past week. I go thru phases of in and out. Right now, I think I really need the fellowship of you wonderful people out there in the Christian blogosphere!

How many kiddos do you think you’ll have? I think I am content with 5. My body is so beat up right now– I personally need a break! I thought we were done with #4, but God had other plans and Jonah is JUST what we needed around here. He’s an absolute treasure.

We’ll continue to pray for your wife’s healing. I hope you’ll keep us posted!

bless you and your precious family!!

  7. Congrats Amanda on number 5! Same for me here. I just started blogging again myself. This is Paul who once blogged with you over at SOJ. I’m slowly posting some of my old material on a new site and eventually ill be adding more. I kinda flipped over into the not quite cessation but anti charismatic camp a couple of years ago and I suppose im still there. Still its nice to try finding some old bloggers online. I wonder if M. Baker is still around? Take care and the Lord bless you and the ever increasing family he has blessed you with,

    sincerely Paul
